Happy Mother’s Day!
What is a Mother worth? More than the President of the United States or a couple of lawyers, or a little less than the average Chief Financial Officer.
The duties we expect Mom to perform are worth $761,650 a year on the job market. She’s a chef, computer systems analyst, financial manager, animal caretaker, psychologist, office clerk, nurse, management analyst, bus driver, dietitian and a few other things, figures Edelman Financial Services of Fairfax, VA.
Edelman used federal Labor Department salary data in 2006 to calculate the market value of the jobs a mother does. They didn’t calculate remuneration for a lap to stanch tears, a forgiving ear when all the rest of the world is against you, or cookies and chocolate milk on demand. Those are priceless.

Numbers in the News
1 – Georgia’s rank in 2008 adoption referrals in the 33 states that Bethany Christian Services operates. “More than any other state” reported Marc Andreas, VP of Marketing and Communication, “a total of 500 with 33 from pregnancy resource centers in Georgia.” However, in 2009 Georgia fell to #12 in the country with only 10 referrals.
8 – Georgia’s rank in the strength of pro-life laws in a report issued for 2010 by Americans United for life, an internationally known pro-life group which ranks all 50 states. When the rankings began a decade ago Georgia was near the bottom. Five years ago Georgia was #22, three years ago Georgia had climbed to #14, and last year Georgia achieved #11th most pro-life state.
2 – Georgia’s ranking in the number of centers who received training from Sonography Now. California was first.
1 Georgia generated the highest call volume to Option Line during 2009 with 27, 965 calls from women seeking assistance with unplanned pregnancies. Florida came in a distant 2nd with 19,096 calls and Texas with 17,319. Atlanta generated the most center searches of any metropolitan area and can be attributed to the heavy marketing efforts by organizations in this market.
22 Grants awarded by Focus on the Family so far this year to Georgia pregnancy resource centers that are going medical. There have been 489 such grants since 2004 in Georgia alone!
